India, That is Bharat : Only Just “Bharat” “Bharat” “Bharat” https://english.thefirenews.com/india-that-is-bharat-only-just-bharat-bharat-bharat/ https://english.thefirenews.com/india-that-is-bharat-only-just-bharat-bharat-bharat/#respond Tue, 05 Sep 2023 12:03:34 +0000 https://english.thefirenews.com/?p=1188 In a move seemingly driven by concerns over the INDIA alliance, the Modi government has reignited the INDIA vs “Bharat” debate for political gain, according to opposition party leaders on Tuesday.

Departing from established norms, the Modi government has sent dinner invitations to G20 leaders with the inscription ‘President of Bharat’ instead of the usual ‘President of India.’

The senior Congress leader, Jairam Ramesh, was the first to point out this anomaly. In a fresh critique of the Modi government, he remarked, “It appears that the news is indeed accurate. Rashtrapati Bhawan has issued an invitation for a G20 dinner on September 9th under the name ‘President of Bharat’ instead of the usual ‘President of India’ (sic).”

Taking a swipe at the BJP-led Union government, the Congress leader continued, “While Article 1 of the Constitution may state, ‘Bharat, that was India, shall be a Union of States,’ even this ‘Union of States’ is now under threat.”

Tehseen Poonawala, a Congress supporter and political activist who also serves as an advocate at the Supreme Court, stated on X, “Article 1 of the Indian Constitution clearly states that ‘India that is Bharat shall be a union of states.’ There is no question of renaming India as only Bharat.

“This simply cannot be done – it goes against the Basic Structure of our Constitution and is impossible to change. Such a move would lead to further complications in the North East and South India. Dropping the name INDIA is impossible!” opined Tehseen.

In a scathing critique of the Modi government, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked, “If an alliance of some parties were to become India, would they change the name of the country? The country belongs to 1.4 billion people, not just one party.

“Let’s assume that the India alliance rebrands itself as Bharat, would they then rename Bharat as BJP?… What kind of joke is this?… BJP seems to be worried that their vote count will decrease, so they want to change the name of Bharat,” quipped Kejriwal on X.

Bharat

RJD leader Manoj Jha, referring to the INDIA alliance’s tagline, ‘Judega Bharat, Jeetega INDIA,’ said, “You [Modi government] cannot take Bharat or INDIA away from us.
“It has been only a few weeks since we named our alliance INDIA, and the BJP has already started sending invitations with ‘Republic of Bharat’ instead of ‘Republic of India’,” added Jha.

It’s worth noting that Assam Chief Minister Himnata Sharma was the first to introduce the idea of using Bharat as a contrasting political slogan against INDIA.

Although the Constitution refers to the country as “India, that is Bharat,” there is growing clamor for a name change during a special session of Parliament. Following Sharma, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal called for the removal of ‘India’ from the Constitution, arguing that it symbolizes colonial slavery.
Recently, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has also expressed support for the name change, urging citizens to embrace “Bharat” instead of “India,” stating that India is a Hindu Rashtra and has been known as Bharat for ages.”

China’s New Map Sparks Outrage: Is World Diplomacy on the Brink? https://english.thefirenews.com/chinas-new-map-sparks-outrage-is-world-diplomacy-on-the-brink/ https://english.thefirenews.com/chinas-new-map-sparks-outrage-is-world-diplomacy-on-the-brink/#respond Tue, 29 Aug 2023 13:26:27 +0000 https://english.thefirenews.com/?p=1179 China’s recent presentation of its updated “China’s New Map” has ignited a storm of controversy due to its incorporation of disputed territories, including Arunachal Pradesh, Aksai Chin, Taiwan, and the contentious regions within the South China Sea. The unveiling, occurring on August 28th, has raised diplomatic concerns and resurrected ongoing disputes.

The official China’s New Map, referred to as the 2023 edition, was introduced through the Ministry of Natural Resources’ standard map service website. The map employs a methodology revolving around national borders to portray China’s perspective on global geography, potentially aggravating tensions with neighboring countries.

As stated by the state-run Global Times on X (formerly Twitter), “This map is constructed based on China’s interpretation of national boundaries and those of various countries worldwide.

Of significant note is the inclusion of Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin, both areas that have long been subjects of conflicting claims between China and India. Despite China’s assertions of Arunachal Pradesh as South Tibet, the region has remained an integral part of India. India has consistently reiterated this stance, asserting that Arunachal Pradesh has always been and will remain an inseparable component of the nation, according to reports by PTI.

China’s recent presentation of its updated China’s New Map has ignited a storm of controversy due to its incorporation of disputed territories, including Arunachal Pradesh, Aksai Chin, Taiwan, and the contentious regions within the South China Sea.

The map’s ambit extends beyond India’s borders. China’s insistence on Taiwan as an inherent part of its territory and its ongoing efforts to assimilate the island align with President Xi Jinping’s strategic objectives. This portrayal further inflames tensions between China and Taiwan, a matter of global significance.

Additionally, China’s demarcation includes the contentious nine-dash line, which asserts a considerable portion of the South China Sea as Chinese territory. This move is met with opposition from countries such as Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan, all of which have competing claims over the same maritime regions.

China’s New Map : India-China boundary dispute

India and China lack an officially recognized international border. Instead, they share a Line of Actual Control and differing perceptions of the de facto boundary spanning over 3,400 km.

The two nations engaged in conflict in 1962, during which China occupied the Aksai Chin area – historically part of India’s Jammu and Kashmir – and subsequently withdrew from Arunachal Pradesh in the northeast, which China views as belonging to the Tibet region.

UK Anchor Patrick : Give back Our Kohinoor and $44 trillion You Have Looted From India https://english.thefirenews.com/uk-anchor-patrick-give-back-our-kohinoor-and-44-trillion-you-have-looted-from-india/ https://english.thefirenews.com/uk-anchor-patrick-give-back-our-kohinoor-and-44-trillion-you-have-looted-from-india/#respond Fri, 25 Aug 2023 14:30:40 +0000 https://english.thefirenews.com/?p=1164 India’s triumphant Chandrayaan 3 expedition has sparked a heated exchange on Twitter after a UK-based news UK Anchor Patrick expressed his view that Delhi shouldn’t be seeking foreign assistance following the mission’s triumph. This led to an array of impassioned online users reminding him of the historical £45 trillion that Britain had extracted from India.

UK Anchor Patrick , if you people had not looted India’s money and Kohinoor, then you would not have even had clothes, you would have gone naked

The controversy began when UK Anchor Patrick Christys, a news anchor at GB News in the UK, extended his congratulations to India for its achievement in landing on the dark side of the moon. He then proposed that India consider returning the £2.3 billion in foreign aid it had received between 2016 and 2021.

I want to extend my congratulations to India for their successful lunar landing. In addition, I encourage India to contemplate the return of the £2.3 billion in foreign aid provided from 2016 to 2021.”

He further suggested that British taxpayers should withhold the planned £57 million of foreign aid intended for India in the coming year.

We should reconsider providing financial assistance to countries with advanced space programs. It seems logical that if a country can afford to launch rockets to the dark side of the moon, it shouldn’t need external financial support,” he added.

Reportedly, India has around 29 million people living in poverty, which is the highest number anywhere in the world according to the UN. Despite this, India holds the position of the fifth largest global economy, boasting an annual GDP of $3.75 trillion. This raises the question – why are we providing aid to economically significant India when its own government should address poverty?” he pointed out, also noting that the UK provides foreign aid to China, which also maintains a space program.

Later, he proceeded to list the UK’s foreign aid allocations to other countries such as Syria, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

UK Anchor Patrick shared the video clip on Twitter, commenting, “It’s truly puzzling that we continue to allocate foreign aid to some of the world’s wealthiest nations while there are pressing needs at home.

These sentiments resonated with several British citizens. One individual remarked, “India has accomplished a lunar landing, yet it received £2.3 billion in UK aid between 2016 and 2021. This raises concerns about our nation’s priorities.

A Twitter user commented, “Simply deduct that amount from the $44 trillion you profited from India. Please return our Kohinoor diamond as well.

Another person agreed, saying, “The UK should rethink providing aid to nations with advanced space programs that can achieve rocket landings on the far side of the moon.

However, these comments triggered strong reactions from many Indians, who were quick to point out the historical exploitation of over $45 trillion during the colonial era.

A Twitter user commented, “Simply deduct that amount from the $44 trillion you profited from India. Please return our Kohinoor diamond as well.

Another individual reminded UK Anchor Patrick, “We appreciate the aid reminder. Now, in line with your own stance, kindly return the $45 TRILLION that you took from us.

Another individual remind UK Anchor Patrick, "We appreciate the aid reminder. Now, in line with your own stance, kindly return the $45 TRILLION that you took from us.

On August 23 at 6:04 p.m., the Chandrayaan-3 lander made a successful touchdown on the lunar south pole, elevating India to an exclusive group of four countries with accomplished lunar missions. Notably, India achieved the distinction of being the first to land on uncharted lunar terrain and perform a gentle moon landing.

I am scheduled to visit the Republic of South Africa from August 22nd to 24th, 2023, following an invitation from President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa. The purpose of my visit is to attend the 15th BRICS Summit hosted in Johannesburg under the leadership of South Africa,” Modi stated.

He added, “I am also looking forward to engaging in bilateral dialogues with select leaders present at the Johannesburg gathering.”

Modi further disclosed his plans to journey to Athens, Greece on August 25th, following an invitation from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

BRICS, A consortium of world economies including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is convening for the summit from August 22nd to 24th.

“This excursion marks my maiden visit to this ancient land. I am honored to be the first Indian Prime Minister to set foot in Greece in over four decades,” he articulated.

Modi underscored the historical connections between India and Greece, stretching back over two millennia, with modern-day ties bolstered by shared democratic values, rule of law, and pluralism. He highlighted cooperation in diverse sectors such as trade, investment, defense, culture, and people-to-people interactions that have drawn the two nations closer.

Eagerly anticipating his Greek visit, Modi conveyed his aspirations for opening a new chapter in the multi-dimensional relationship between the two countries.

BRICS, a consortium of world economies including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is convening for the summit from August 22nd to 24th. This marks Modi’s third visit to South Africa and commemorates the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and South Africa.

The current presidency of BRICS rests with South Africa this year. The central theme for the summit is “BRICS and Africa: Fostering Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development, and Inclusive Multilateralism.”

This event signifies the return to in-person meetings after three consecutive years of virtual sessions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a briefing preceding Modi’s voyages to South Africa and Greece, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra highlighted, “As mentioned earlier, the host nation, South Africa, has invited not only numerous guest countries but also the attending BRICS members.”

Kwatra disclosed that an Indian business delegation would also be present, participating in the Business Tracks meetings.

Elaborating on the Prime Minister’s itinerary, Kwatra elucidated, “For the 15th BRICS Summit, an Indian business delegation is also en route to South Africa to take part in the Business Tracks meetings, along with sessions of the BRICS Business Council, BRICS Women Business Alliance, and the BRICS Business Forum.”

“The specifics of the Prime Minister’s schedule regarding bilateral interactions with attending leaders are still in the process of development,” Kwatra clarified.

While Russian President Vladimir Putin will virtually engage in the 15th summit, the Russian delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Lavrov will also participate in a special event themed “BRICS – Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue.”

19-Year-Old Woman Receives Dual Life Sentences https://english.thefirenews.com/19-year-old-woman-receives-dual-life-sentences/ https://english.thefirenews.com/19-year-old-woman-receives-dual-life-sentences/#respond Tue, 22 Aug 2023 04:19:07 +0000 https://english.thefirenews.com/?p=1151 Mackenzie Shirilla, the 19-year-old woman who was convicted of murder for deliberately causing a car collision resulting in the deaths of her boyfriend and his friend in July 2022, has been handed two concurrent life sentences for the double homicides. Judge Nancy Margaret Russo delivered the sentencing, ruling that Shirilla will serve a minimum of 15 years in prison for the dual life sentences. The families of the victims, 20-year-old Domonic Russo and 19-year-old Davion Flanagan, continue to grapple with the profound loss.

Christina Russo, Domonic’s mother, lamented, “Dom and Davion had their futures, hopes, and dreams cruelly stolen. Mackenzie displayed no mercy towards Dom or Davion. Only at this juncture can we entrust her soul to divine mercy.”

During the emotional impact statements provided by the victims’ families, many appealed to the judge for consecutive sentences and urged that Shirilla be sentenced to the maximum term of 30 years to life imprisonment. Judge Russo acknowledged the prevailing pain in the courtroom, stating, “I comprehend the anguish in this room that inclines towards the most severe sentence. Nevertheless, I am of the belief that the harshest sentence would not be fitting, as I remain convinced that Mackenzie will not be released within 15 years.

Shirilla faced charges including four counts of murder, four counts of felonious assault, aggravated vehicular homicide, drug possession, and possession of criminal tools, as per court records. Last week, she was found guilty on all charges in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas. Judge Russo emphasized, “Even if Mackenzie had intentions of perishing in the crash, it holds no relevance. An unsuccessful suicide attempt does not absolve the charge of murder.

During the sentencing phase, the prosecution presented arguments that Shirilla displayed no remorse and shared videos of her attending concerts and college parties following the tragedy. Shirilla’s mother revealed that she had encouraged her to attend these events, asserting, “She sought a moment of joy to alleviate her immense grief for losing her entire world. I implore leniency on the grounds that this was a tragic accident she does not recall.

19-year-old Davion Flanagan, and 20-year-old Domonic Russo—had to be extricated from the vehicle. While Shirilla was airlifted to MetroHealth in Cleveland for medical treatment, Flanagan and Russo were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Shirilla herself addressed the court, expressing remorse for the pain she caused. Additionally, the defense submitted letters of good behavior from her time in a juvenile corrections facility prior to the sentencing. “I am profoundly sorry,” Mackenzie Shirilla said. “I am shattered. I cherished Dom and Davion. We were all close friends, and Dom was my kindred spirit. I wish I could alleviate all your suffering, and I deeply apologize.”

The collision transpired on July 31, 2022, shortly after 6 a.m. near the intersection of Progress and Alameda drives. The occupants—Shirilla, 19-year-old Davion Flanagan, and 20-year-old Domonic Russo—had to be extricated from the vehicle. While Shirilla was airlifted to MetroHealth in Cleveland for medical treatment, Flanagan and Russo were pronounced deceased at the scene. Court records affirm that Shirilla “deliberately caused the deaths” of the two teenagers through the vehicle crash.

Russia’s Luna-25 Spacecraft Meets Unexpected End on the Moon https://english.thefirenews.com/russias-luna-25-spacecraft-meets-unexpected-end-on-the-moon/ https://english.thefirenews.com/russias-luna-25-spacecraft-meets-unexpected-end-on-the-moon/#respond Sun, 20 Aug 2023 15:34:10 +0000 https://english.thefirenews.com/?p=1129 Russia’s Luna-25 recent attempt to reach the moon, their first in 47 years, unfortunately ended in failure. The Russia’s Luna-25 spacecraft, part of the Russian space program’s efforts to restore its historical reputation, spun out of control and crashed into the moon’s surface.

The trouble began when the spacecraft was shifted into a pre-landing orbit on Saturday. At 11:57 AM GMT, contact with Luna-25 was lost, leading to its collision with the moon. Roscosmos, the state space corporation, expressed that the craft had entered an unforeseen orbit and ultimately met its end due to its encounter with the lunar surface. To investigate the reasons behind the loss of the Luna-25 craft, a specialized interdepartmental commission has been established.

Pavel Luzin, a specialist in the Russian space program, had previously highlighted the importance of Luna-25 for Russia’s bid to demonstrate independent capabilities in space exploration, even without Western assistance. This failure underscores the decline of Russia’s space dominance from the days of the Cold War, when they achieved milestones like launching Sputnik 1, the first Earth-orbiting satellite in 1957, and sending Yuri Gagarin into space in 1961.

Russia’s Luna-25 mission had aimed to land near the moon’s south pole, gathering geological samples and transmitting data about water or its elemental components. This information could be pivotal in planning future human settlements on the moon. Yet, the primary objective was to prove Russia’s capacity to successfully launch a lunar landing mission, overcoming past failures, shifts in scientific personnel, sanctions, and isolation due to conflicts like the one in Ukraine.

Surprisingly, Russian state television relegated the news of Russia’s Luna-25 loss to the eighth spot in its noon broadcast, allotting a mere 26 seconds of coverage. This comes in stark contrast to the prolonged coverage of other events, such as fires in Tenerife and a celebration for Russian pilots and crews.

Russia’s rivals, including India, China, and the US, are all making strides in lunar exploration. India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission, set to land on the moon’s south pole, is scheduled for August 23. Russia’s Luna-25 failure could hinder Russia’s aspirations to be the first to retrieve frozen water from the moon’s south pole.

Anatoly Zak, who operates the RussianSpaceWeb website focused on Russian space endeavors, highlighted the flight control system’s vulnerabilities that required multiple fixes. Zak also noted that Russia skipped the customary practice of attempting a simpler orbital mission before undertaking a more complex moon landing, unlike the traditional approach of countries like the Soviet Union, the US, China, and India.

Russian scientists have been vocal about the detrimental impact of weak management, unrealistic projects, corruption, and declining scientific education on the space program’s effectiveness. Post-Soviet Russia faced failures with space landing missions such as Mars-96 in 1996 and Phobos-Grunt in 2011, both of which crash-landed into the Pacific Ocean.

Although the Russia’s Luna-25 mission successfully departed Earth’s orbit, its ultimate failure raises questions about the prospects of Russia’s moon program. Several upcoming missions, like Luna-26 and Luna-27, could face delays or even cancellations. As space exploration blogger Vitaly Egorov highlighted, the timeline for these missions, initially set no earlier than 2027, might now be uncertain.
